N.B Aircraft are encouraged not to arrive or depart on Sunday 5th between 11.30 and 14.30 to avoid interruption of the Official Ceremony.

DAY 1-FRIDAY 3 Oct 08

  • 12:00-17:00 Aircraft arrive Tooraweenah Airstrip. Village shuttle transport available. Aircraft registration.
  • Dinner, drinks and entertainment at Tooraweenah Hotel.
  • 18.00 -Opening of three day Art Exhibition (Wine and Cheese) Tooraweenah Memorial Hall. Opened by writer/author Michael Keenan.  $20 per Hd.
  • Coaches to Coonabarabran and Gilgandra Motels. Timetable will be available on the weekend.

DAY 2-SATURDAY 4 Oct 08

  • 08.00 – 17.00 Aircraft arriving including vintage aircraft.
  • 09.00 Guided historic town walking tour. Jill Blackman. (See Town Tour map for start)
  • 09.00 - 16.00 Art Exhibition. Gold coin donation.
  • 10.00 CWA Tree Planting ceremony, Bridge Street opposite Memorial Hall, followed by Tea and Scones at CWA Rooms.
  • Bus Tours (see Tours section P 10).
  • 18.30 Tooraweenah BASH Dinner. Featuring live band ‘Shameless’  
    • RAAF Balloon Glow –viewing and photo opportunity.
    • Guest Speaker: Warwick Tainton, Chairman of the Qantas Founders Outback Museum, Longreach.
    • Presentations.
    • Auction.
  • 21.00 Start of entry to BASH dance and band 'Shameless' only.
  • BASH Dress: Smart casual. Bar facilities available until 1.00 a.m.

DAY 3-SUNDAY 5 Oct 08

  • 08.00- 11.00 Remaining aircraft fly-in, park and register.
  • 08.30 View Schools Competition Display, Tooraweenah Primary School (TPS).
  • Beginning 09.00     
    • RAAF tethered balloon flights at Airstrip, free of charge (weather permitting).
    • Ecumenical service in TPS Grounds.
    • Presentation of Schools Competition awards by Brett Garling Sculptor/Artist. TPS.
    • Dedication of Arthur Butler Bowser. (Opposite TPS grounds.) Garling descendants Beryl Butler and Beverley Knight and ex-Butler employee Paul Gianniotis.
  • 10.30 – 11.00 Sheep shearing and spinning display at Airstrip.
  • 11.00 – 11.30 Remote control model aircraft display at Airstrip.
  • 11.30 Official Ceremony and Public Celebration at Airstrip:
    • Word from the Patron Mr G Rohr.
    • Guest speaker: Mr Ron Yates, ex CEO Qantas, contemporary of Arthur Butler.
    • Book launch by Mrs A Yeats, daughter of Arthur Butler. “Flight - Memoirs of C.A Butler 1912-1958”.
    • Airstrip renaming to Arthur Butler Memorial Airstrip. Mrs K Rohr.
    • South Pacific Band performance.
    • Ralph Naden Aboriginal Dancers.
    • Move to monument for unveiling of commemorative plaque. Ex-Butler Employees.
  • 13.30 - 14.30 Invited Guests luncheon. BAT 1 Marquee.
  • 13.30 - 14.00 Remote control model aircraft display at Airstrip.
  • 14.00 - 14.30 South Pacific Band performance.
  • 14.30 - 15.00 Sheep shearing and spinning display at Airstrip.
  • 15.00 Raffle Draw. “Warrumbungle High Tops” Mrs K Rohr, Local Artist.

  • Recovery day and recreational activities.
  • Available facilities: tennis and golf.
  • Village shuttle buses continue.
  • Remaining aircraft depart.
